Fun for Kids

Got kids? Cleveland is a great place to raise children and below is a list of destinations that will create memories you and your kids will never forget.

  • Cleveland Metroparks Zoo-Sure the Zoo is a fun place to visit in the summer but also still popular during the winter months. With its tropical temperatures the Rain forest is a big hit for kids and the monkeys, apes, fish, cats, anteater, snakes, frogs, and bats can keep them captivated for a few hours at least.

  • Cleveland Museum of Art - Every second Sunday of every month is Family Day at the Cleveland Art Museum where several art centered crafts will keep children of all ages occupied for the entire day. Also come discover the new high-tech children's area stock full of beautiful picture books and interactive digital displays which are bound to interest even the littlest crawler.

  • Cleveland Botanical Gardens-The children's garden is a required summer destination with a magical pond stocked with goldfish, a treehouse where your little one can spend some time reading in the sun or hunting for frogs amongst the garden rocks.

  • The Greater Cleveland Aquarium- For $5 you can take the trolley all the way to the flats with your child (who rides for free under 6) to visit the Greater Cleveland Aquarium. One of the favorite attractions here is a large circular tank filled with Manta Rays. Dip your hand in the tank and touch the wings of the Manta rays as they playfully glide by. Newly opened on the second floor of the Powerhouse is an interactive play room where your toddlers and preschoolers can touch the livestock.

  • The Children's Museum of Cleveland-Check out their website for daily activities and sometimes fun messy crafts. Favorite playrooms include the water table stocked with splash toys and the grocery store where your child can take control of the money and the shopping cart.

  • Cleveland Museum of Natural History- Sure there are dinosaur skeletons and other prehistoric animals but did you know that there is a little nature preserve of live wild animals on the grounds surrounding the museum which your little one can explore on a protected path? Don't forget to visit the basement playroom which features multiple learning stations that will engage your child for hours.

  • Cleveland Public Library and Cuyahoga Public Library - Don't forget about the two large library systems feeding Cleveland. Local libraries in every neighborhood also provide kid and teen-centered activities that will keep you coming back every week not just to return books.

For the final say on what to do every day and on the weekends with children, check out the websites Macaroni Kid East or Macaroni Kid West (depending on where you live relative to the Flats) and have fun exploring all of Cleveland with your kids.
