City of Cleveland Noted for Embracing Policies and Programs to Build Community Wealth

No city can truly be successful unless all of its citizens share in the economy. Economic inclusion is an important cornerstone to reaching these goals. The City of Cleveland has been recognized in Democracy Collaborative's Cities Building Community Wealth report along with many other communities that are pushing to bring these efforts to scale.

"Community wealth building," defined by the authors of the report as: "a systems approach to economic development that creates an inclusive, sustainable economy built on locally rooted and broadly held ownership." Community wealth building "calls for developing place-based assets of many kinds, working collaboratively, tapping large sources of demand, and fostering economic institutions and ecosystems of support for enterprises rooted in community"  A profile of Cleveland is included in the report as one of ten cities having innovative municipal policies.

The Democracy Collaborative has indicated 7 Drivers for success which include: Place, locally-rooted Ownership, Inclusion, Multipliers, Workforce, Collaboration, and System.
