The City of Cleveland has 2 airports- Cleveland Hopkins International Airport and Burke Lakefront Airport. These airports provide world class service, serving both commercial and private air transportation. Hopkins airport is located within the City limits, meaning getting to and from your flight is quick and easy. Cleveland Hopkins International Airport
Cleveland Hopkins International Airport, located on the far west side of Cleveland, serves as the City’s main commercial airport. It is the largest airport in the State of Ohio. Cleveland Hopkins International Airport is now home to two airline focus city operations with United Airlines and Frontier Airlines. Also serving CLE are Air Canada, American, Delta, Southwest and US Airways. There are currently 144 daily departures to 40 nonstop markets including international service to Mexico, Canada, and the Caribbean. New service has been announced by three airlines recently with Delta to Indianapolis, Hartford and Raleigh-Durham; Frontier to Trenton, Seattle, Orlando, Phoenix, Raleigh-Durham, Atlanta, Fort Lauderdale, Ft. Myers, Tampa, Dallas-Ft. Worth and Las Vegas; and American to Phoenix.
The airport was opened in 1925 and is the first municipally owned airport in the United Stated. Recently the airport annouced a $20 million dollar plan to upgrade its terminal, an upgrade that is an important part of positioning the airport for the future.
Hopkins Airport is connected to Downtown Cleveland via the Regional Transit Authority’s (RTA) Red Line. The direct rail connection takes passengers from Hopkins to Public Square in about 25 minutes.
Burke Lakefront Airport
Burke Lakefront Airport is an FAR Part 139 Airport, providing mostly business and charter service. Burke is he nation's only airport built on a Great Lake in the downtown of a major city. One of the most interesting facts about Burke is that the airport is frequently used by medical teams who are bringing in organs for transplant for our world class medical facilities. It’s downtown location on the lakefront and adjacent to Route 90 means quick access for any type of business using the airport.
Because Burke Lakefront Airport is located two minutes away from Browns Stadium, Quicken Loans Arena, and Progressive Field, Burke is used frequently by NFL, NBA and MLB players. Every Labor Day Weekend Burke Lakefront Airport hosts the Cleveland National Air Show; three days of thrilling acts and special exhibits and a favorite family tradition. The show features stunt planes and military jets performing spectacular acts of power and precision. During the week leading to the airshow the military jets can be seen and heard thundering over Cleveland.
As part of Cleveland Hopkins and Burke airport facilities and services, the airports also offer a flight school, Premier Flight Academy. Premier Flight Academy offers Part 61 courses (Private, Instrument, Commercial) as well as Part 141 pilot training course (Private, Instrument, ATP Groundschool). Premier Flight Acadamey caters to the new aviator interested in completing their Private Pilot's license and to the aviation career enthusiast who wants to complete their Commercial Pilot's license.
